An appeal for US$2000 to assist the study and conservation of the rare 'Caracal aurata'

The African golden cat is Africa's least known wild cat species and only found in the forests of equatorial Africa - Uganda is right on the eastern edge of its range. The species is listed as ‘Vulnerable’ on the IUCN's Red List and may already be extinct in many formerly utilised areas.
Embaka is a registered Community Based Conservation Organization (CBO) in Uganda that strives to protect the African golden cat across its national range. The organisation also helps to coordinate the newly created African Golden Cat Conservation Alliance (AGCCA) to expand and oversee the conservation of this beautiful species across its whole range in Africa.
Embaka works with local people and wildlife managers to identify and reduce threats to the species in areas adjacent to some of the protected areas in Uganda where it is found: The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (where 2,250 local families have already joined their Anti-Poaching Community Watch Groups), and the Echuya, Kasyoha-Kitomi and Bugoma Forest Reserves.
Embaka is requesting support for their programme of integrating community-led conservation and scientific monitoring designed to mitigate the impact of poaching on the African golden cat at Bwindi. Specifically WWA seeks to raise funds to cover the purchase and supply of SD memory cards and batteries for Embaka’s 60 trail cameras to a value of US$2000.
Help us reach our WWA target and ensure the preservation of the golden cat: US$2000
